Supra-rational intuition
– Definition: A form of intuition that transcends rationality, going beyond the limits of logical reasoning to access a deeper understanding, often associated with metaphysical, spiritual, or universal truths.
– Characteristics:
– Perceived as direct, immediate, and holistic knowledge that exceeds the analytical capabilities of reason.
– Often associated with mystical, philosophical, or creative experiences, where one grasps a complex or universal reality without logical mediation.
– Example:
A philosophical or spiritual illumination, such as an artist who “perceives” a work in its entirety before creating it, or a mystical intuition in traditions like Sufism or Buddhism.
– Context:
Common in philosophy (e.g.: Plato, Plotinus, or Bergson for an intuition of “duration” or the absolute) and in spiritual or esoteric approaches.
– Level:
Above rationality, transcending the limits of reasoning.
